Registering a Death

Deaths in Hospitals

Deaths which occur in public and private hospitals will be registered by the administration of those hospitals.

For a death occurring in a private hospital there will be no fee charged for registering of the death.

For deaths in public (government) hospitals there will be no fee charged for registering the death.

A copy of the registration of death will be given to the relatives or the person registering on behalf of the relatives

The original of the Registration of Birth is filed with the GRO and the registration centre keeps the second copy for its files.

 

Deaths outside of Hospitals

Deaths occuring outside of a hospital can be registered at any government hospital or health centre in the region in which the death occurs.

No fee is charged for the registration of a death in these cases.

The original Registration of Death is given to the relatives or to the person who is registering the death on behalf of the other relatives.

The original of the Registration of Birth is filed with the GRO and the second copy of the Registration of Death is to be given to the doctor certifying the death for his records.
