World Suicide Prevention Day 2025 | You’re Not Alone – Help Is Available

Each year, on September 10, the world observes World Suicide Prevention Day – a time to raise awareness, strengthen understanding, and encourage action to prevent the tragedy of suicide. The General Register Office of Guyana (GRO) stands in solidarity with this global movement. As the national custodian of vital records, we are deeply aware of the impact that suicide has on families, communities, and our nation as a whole. Every life lost is more than a statistic; it is a son, a daughter, a parent, a colleague, and a friend.

This year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative”, reminds us that prevention is possible and that together we can foster hope, compassion, and resilience. By talking openly about mental health, supporting one another, and providing safe spaces for dialogue, we can help break the silence and reduce stigma.

We encourage every citizen to:

  • Reach out – Check in on loved ones and friends who may be struggling.

  • Listen with compassion – Sometimes, a listening ear can make a life-saving difference.

  • Seek help – Professional support and community resources are available.

On this day, let us renew our collective commitment to valuing and protecting life. Together, we can create a Guyana where hope thrives and where fewer families experience the pain of losing a loved one to suicide.
