International Women’s Day Message
From Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ms. Mae Toussaint Jr. Thomas
As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2023, I take this opportunity to salute the women of the Ministry of Home Affairs, including our many women in uniform and all the women of Guyana.
The theme for this year’s observances is, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” and aptly fits into the programmes, policies, and initiatives of our government.
As a nation, we have come a long way, as many of our women are leading in innovation and technology. Many of our women are excelling in their professions while continuing to take care of their families.
Our country, with the support of our government, has gone a long way in promoting gender equality by creating opportunities for women to excel. Testimony to this, are the many women who hold key positions in the Cabinet, Government Ministries and as heads of major agencies and departments in government, as well as Members of Parliament.
As a government, we have initiated a number of programmes to advance the lives and well-being of our women, including in entrepreneurship.
Our women continue to break down barriers created by the stereotype that certain jobs are just for men and are soaring to great heights as formidable leaders in our society.
On this occasion of International Women’s Day, I continue to advocate for more women to pursue their dream careers, as we continue to prove to the world we are not just suitable for the role of housewives.
I further urge that we continue to work diligently to tackle violence against our women as we seek to eradicate this scourge from our society.
Happy International Women’s Day 2023!
